How to Find Your Investment Details
Setting up OWNS for the first time? Here is exactly where to look to find your current investment values, whichever platform or provider you use.
A note before you start: OWNS is still in testing, so you might spot a few rough edges. If something looks off, let us know.
You don't need to track every individual holding down to the last dollar. A single total per account is enough to see your net worth grow over time. Update it whenever you check in, weekly, monthly, whatever suits you.
Sharesies
Open the Portfolio tab. It shows your total investment value and your cash wallet balance separately. Tap into Investments to see a breakdown of individual holdings, including value, number of shares, percentage up or down, investment name, ticker, and exchange.
Hatch
Log in and you'll land on a dashboard showing your total portfolio value in USD, with a list of your individual investments below it.
InvestNow
Log into your account and go to Holdings, which shows your current value per fund.
KiwiSaver
Log into your provider's app or account. Terminology varies (Simplicity, for example, shows your current value as of the last business day plus your return since inception right on login, with a "view detailed" option for a historical graph), but your current balance is always somewhere on the main account screen.
Full-service brokers and wealth managers
If you have a portfolio managed by a broker or investment adviser, log into their client portal or app to view your total portfolio value. If your portfolio mixes shares, bonds, property, and cash, you don't need to enter each holding separately. One total per portfolio is fine.
Individually held shares
If you hold shares directly rather than through a platform, check with your share registry. Computershare and MUFG Pension & Market Services (formerly Link Market Services) are the two main ones in New Zealand. Log into their Investor Centre for your holding's current value.
OWNS isn't limited to shares and funds. Investment properties, business equity, or anything else of value you want to track all work the same way. Just give it its own portfolio and update the value when it changes.
