How to Find Your Loan Details: A Quick Guide

Setting up your dashboard for the first time? Here is exactly where to look to find your balances, interest rates, and expiry dates.

We know that digging through financial documents isn't exactly a fun weekend activity. But the good news is that you usually only have to do the hard work once. Once Owly has your baseline numbers, updating them each month takes seconds.

Because every bank and lender designs their websites differently, here is the universal playbook for tracking down your numbers in New Zealand.

    1. Home Loans & Bank Loans

First choice: Your Banking App or Internet Banking.
Log in and tap on the specific loan account. Look for a button that says "Account Details," "Info," or a small "i" icon. Banks like ASB, ANZ, and Westpac usually list your current interest rate and fixed-rate expiry date right here.

Backup plan: Your most recent statement.
If the app doesn't show the interest rate, download your latest PDF statement. The exact rate and your minimum repayment amount are legally required to be printed there.

    2. Non-Bank Loans (Car Loans, Hire Purchase)

If your loan is with a finance company (e.g., MTF, UDC, Gem Visa, Q Card), they might not have a slick mobile app.

    First choice: Recent Email Statements.
Search your inbox for the lender's name. They usually email a monthly statement that lists your current balance, interest rate, and upcoming payment.

    Backup plan: The Original Contract.
If you can't find a statement, check the original loan documentation you signed. This is especially important for Hire Purchases to find out exactly when your "Interest-Free" promo period ends.

    3. Student Loans

StudyLink helps you get the loan, but Inland Revenue (IRD) manages the repayment.

    Where to look: myIR.
Log into your myIR account on the Inland Revenue website. Your Student Loan will be listed alongside your income tax. Click into it to see your exact remaining balance.

Tip: If you live in New Zealand, your interest rate is 0%. If you live overseas, you will need to check myIR for your current interest rate.
